Assiut University continues to implement its periodic tours to follow up on the application of environmental practices and sustainability in its various faculties and institutes, as part of the July plan, which was launched during the period from July 12 to 15, within the framework of the university's strategy aimed at consolidating the culture of sustainability and promoting environmental awareness among its affiliates, under the auspices of Professor El-Menshawy, President of the University, and the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Adawi, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and under the follow-up of Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Hamad, General Coordinator of the Committee on Environmental Practices and Sustainability.
Professor El-Menshawy stressed that Assiut University is moving steadily forward in implementing its strategy aimed at consolidating the concepts of sustainability and promoting sound environmental practices in the university's various sectors, in a way that contributes to preserving resources, reducing waste, and improving the quality of the educational environment, in addition to supporting the university's role in serving the community and achieving sustainable
development goals. He added that field tours represent one of the important mechanisms for continuous evaluation of environmental performance, and motivate colleges and institutes to apply best practices, in line with the country's directions Egyptian Towards Sustainable Development.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Adawi explained that the work of the Environmental Practices and Sustainability Committee aims to follow up on the commitment of colleges and institutes to the application of environmental practice standards, and to determine the level of implementation of occupational safety and health requirements, and the preservation of infrastructure, in a way that contributes to enhancing the sustainability of the work environment and education within the university. He pointed out that the cooperation and positive interaction that the committee saw during the visits reflects the growing institutional awareness of the importance of sustainability, and the keenness of the various sectors of the university to adopt good environmental practices.
Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Hamad explained that the committee carried out field visits that included the faculties of medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, agriculture, science, engineering, computers and information, education, arts, social work, commerce, law, fine arts, early childhood education, sports sciences, specific education, sugar industry technology and integrated industries, in addition to the South Oncology Institute, the Institute of Molecular Biology, and the Higher Institute of Nursing.
He added that the visits aimed to follow up on the application of environmental practices and sustainability inside classrooms, administrative offices, cafeterias, toilets, and warehouses, in addition to monitoring the level of care for green areas, transportation indicators, and waste sorting and recycling mechanisms, to support the university's orientation towards providing a sustainable university environment.
The visiting teams included some members of the Environmental Practices and Sustainability Committee, where the visiting team included the faculties of early childhood education, computers and information, veterinary medicine, specific education, and nursing, Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Hamad as the team coordinator, and the membership of each of the faculties of early childhood education, Dr. Randa Youssef, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Qadi, Dr. Haitham Nasser, Ms. Nada Youssef, and Mr. Osama Al-Sayed.
