Assiut University Launches the First Activities of the "Your Safety First" Initiative at the Faculty of Specific Education Organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Department
Under the auspices of Professor El-Menshawy, President of Assiut University, the Occupational Safety and Health Department, in cooperation with the Faculty of Specific Education and the Civil Protection Department at the University, organized the first activities of the "Your Safety First" initiative, under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Adawi, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Yasmine Al-Kahki, Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, and Dr. Mohamed Abdel Basit Mohamed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Supervisor of the Occupational Safety and Health Department in the University Sectors and University Hospitals, in the presence of Dr. Nariman Saeed, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, and several department heads, faculty members, staff, and students of the college.
Professor El-Menshawy stressed that consolidating the culture of occupational safety and health within the university community represents an integral part of the university's efforts towards developing a safer and more sustainable educational environment and work, pointing out that
spreading awareness of preventive measures and continuous training on dealing with emergency situations contributes to enhancing the readiness of the university's employees, and supports the efficiency of performance within various sectors. He added that the university is keen to implement initiatives in cooperation between the various concerned departments, in order to enhance preventive practices, and consolidate a culture of responsibility and commitment to safety standards. In line with the state's directions towards improving the quality of life within educational institutions.
Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Adawi stressed that the "Your Safety First" initiative comes within the framework of the strategy of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Assiut University, which aims to spread the culture of occupational safety and health in all faculties of the university, expand awareness of prevention measures, and consolidate commitment to safety requirements within the work and study environment, pointing out that the initiative represents a model of integration between the various sectors of the university in spreading preventive awareness, and transforming safety concepts from its theoretical framework to daily practices and sustainable institutional behavior.
During his lecture, which came under the title "Your Safety First", the Vice President of the University addressed the importance of spreading the culture of occupational safety, the role of preventive awareness in reducing risks, and the need for all elements of the university system to join hands to maintain a safe environment that supports the educational process and ensures the safety of individuals and facilities, stressing the importance of governance in achieving this goal by raising the efficiency of the management of institutions, supporting the public interest, adhering to the laws and regulations regulating occupational safety and health, and promoting institutional responsibility, transparency, accountability, and the application of merit standards. Successful risk management is one of the most prominent results of the application of governance principles.
For her part, Dr. Yasmine Al-Kahki expressed her appreciation to the university administration for its continuous support to the initiative, stressing that this reflects the university's interest in providing a safe educational environment, protecting lives and facilities, and raising the readiness of students and workers to deal with emergencies and potential risks, which contributes to enhancing its educational and community mission.
Dr. Mohamed Abdel Basit Mohamed explained that the organization of the initiative through the Occupational Safety and Health Department comes within the framework of its continuous efforts
to strengthen the safety system within the university, and provide a safer work and education environment, in line with the directions of the Egyptian state in supporting the quality of life within educational institutions, by spreading awareness of occupational safety and health requirements, introducing ways to prevent risks, and developing skills to deal with accidents and emergencies, within the framework of the integration of roles between the various departments and concerned sectors.
The activities of the initiative witnessed an integrated program that combines the theoretical aspect and practical application, as it included a panel discussion entitled "Occupational Safety and Health between Ambition and Application", presented by Dr. Mohamed Abdel Basit Mohammed, during which he reviewed the mechanisms of applying occupational safety and health requirements within the various sectors of the university, the challenges associated with activating them, in addition to the most prominent practices and procedures that contribute to the development of the safety system within university institutions.
The initiative also included a workshop on practical applications of traffic and follow-up in the field of occupational safety and health, presented by Ms. Shaimaa Mohammed Qutb, Acting Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Department at the University, during which she focused on the practical aspects of following up on safety procedures, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, and the importance of field follow-up in detecting and dealing with hazard sources proactively.
The supervisors of the event, along with the lecturers and participating trainers, were honored in recognition of their efforts in making the events a success, and their role in spreading the culture of occupational safety and health and promoting awareness of preventive measures within the university community
The activities concluded with a practical training on how to deal with emergencies, provided by Mr. Mohamed Abdel Aal, Supervisor of Civil Protection at the University, with the aim of introducing the participants to the procedures to be followed in the event of accidents or crises, safe evacuation mechanisms, and quick and orderly handling of emergencies in a way that contributes to reducing risks and preserving lives and property.
